Damian Pinas reminded the combat sports world why his fists are dangerous at UFC 329, dispatching Cesar Almeida with a single perfectly-timed strike that ended their middleweight clash in the opening round.
The Aruban prospect found himself under pressure early, as the 38-year-old Almeida utilized his extensive kickboxing background to control the tempo. Almeida, a decorated champion across multiple kickboxing organizations, pressed forward with technical precision during the fight's opening minutes, forcing Pinas to weather an uncomfortable start.
Explosive Finish
At the 4:44 mark of Round 1, Pinas capitalized on a momentary lapse in his opponent's defense. A straight right hand landed flush, piercing through Almeida's guard and rattling him severely. Referee Chris Tognoni allowed action to continue momentarily, but Pinas followed with another powerful blow that prompted the official to halt the contest.
