Founding in the Amazon (2003)

Jungle Fight was established in 2003 by former mixed martial artist and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Wallid Ismail, in partnership with Japanese professional wrestling figure Antonio Inoki. The promotion took its name and identity from its place of origin, the Amazonas state in northern Brazil. Its inaugural card, Jungle Fight 1, was held on September 13, 2003, in Manaus, the capital of Amazonas. The event drew attention well beyond its remote setting because of the future talent on the card: Lyoto Machida defeated Stephan Bonnar, Fabricio Werdum defeated Gabriel Gonzaga, and Ronaldo 'Jacare' Souza also competed, all of whom would later become prominent figures in international MMA.

Early Growth and First International Step (2004-2008)

Through the mid-2000s, Jungle Fight built a reputation as a regional showcase for emerging Brazilian fighters, staging events primarily in the Amazon region. The promotion gave early platforms to fighters who would later reach the sport's highest levels, including featherweight José Aldo, who competed on the promotion's cards in this period. In December 2006, Jungle Fight held an event in Ljubljana, Slovenia, the only edition staged outside Brazil in the promotion's history. No events were held in 2007, but activity resumed in 2008 with a series of cards in Rio de Janeiro, broadening the promotion's footprint beyond the Amazon.

Consolidation as a Brazilian Talent Feeder (2008-2015)

Following its return in 2008, Jungle Fight grew into one of the longest-running and most consistently active MMA promotions in Brazil and South America. It secured television exposure on Brazilian network Band and later distribution through ESPN platforms, and it became widely regarded as a primary developmental circuit feeding fighters into larger organizations such as the UFC. The promotion formalized championship divisions during this era, with men's titles introduced in the early 2010s spanning weight classes from strawweight through heavyweight.

Championship Era and Modern Period (2015-present)

From the mid-2010s onward, Jungle Fight continued to produce fighters who transitioned directly into the UFC after capturing its belts. Paulo Costa won a Jungle Fight middleweight title via first-round submission at Jungle Fight 87 in May 2016 before signing with the UFC. The promotion expanded its title roster to include women's divisions and a kickboxing championship. Remaining privately held under Wallid Ismail, Jungle Fight has staged well over 140 events through the mid-2020s, maintaining its role as one of Brazil's most established regional promotions and a recognized stepping stone to the international stage.
