Founding (2016)

BRAVE Combat Federation was established by Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, a member of the Bahraini royal family and a competitive sportsman, and is operated under the parent company KHK MMA. The promotion staged its inaugural event, BRAVE 1: The Beginning, on 23 September 2016 in Isa Town, Bahrain, a date that coincided with the founder's birthday. The organization grew out of the KHK MMA team, a Bahrain-based program that provided local fighters with housing, stipends, medical care, and international coaching. From the outset BRAVE CF positioned itself as the largest MMA promotion to emerge from the Middle East, with a stated mission of developing talent globally rather than operating from a single region.

Early Expansion and First Champions (2017-2018)

In its first full year the promotion crowned its inaugural titleholder when Algeria's Elias Boudegzdame won the BRAVE CF Featherweight World Championship at BRAVE CF 4 in 2017 by submitting Masio Fullen; Boudegzdame became the first fighter to defend a BRAVE CF title at BRAVE CF 10 in early 2018. The company pushed an aggressive international touring model, running shows across Brazil, India, Mexico, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and Europe. In 2017 it hosted the IMMAF World Championships in Bahrain, the first time the amateur world championships were held outside the United States, and it would host the event again in subsequent years. A landmark came at BRAVE 14 in August 2018 in Tangier, Morocco, billed as the first major global MMA promotion to stage an event in Africa, held under the patronage of King Mohammed VI.

Talent Pipeline and Notable Alumni (2018-2020)

During this period BRAVE CF became known as a launching pad for fighters who later reached the UFC's elite. Khamzat Chimaev made his BRAVE CF debut in 2018 and built an undefeated record there before signing with the UFC, where he became a champion. Ilia Topuria signed with BRAVE CF in 2018-2019 and fought several times under the banner, including bouts in Colombia and Bahrain, before moving to the UFC and winning world titles in multiple divisions. Other prominent alumni include Muhammad Mokaev, Johnny Walker, Ottman Azaitar and Stephen Loman, reinforcing the promotion's reputation as a global scouting and development platform.

Broadcasting, Records and Global Reach (2021-2023)

BRAVE CF expanded its media footprint with international television partnerships and the launch of the BRAVE TV streaming app in 2022, offering free and pay-per-view content, alongside a BRAVE Films production unit. In 2021 the promotion received its first World MMA Awards nomination for Promotion of the Year. In 2022 it introduced the MMA Super Cup, a nation-versus-nation amateur team competition. A defining statistic came in 2023, when BRAVE CF reported having hosted events in 38 nations across five continents, which it cited as a record for an MMA promotion, with athletes drawn from more than 80 countries.

Modern Era (2023-Present)

By its later numbered events the promotion had run more than 100 shows in over 40 countries, including Bahrain, Brazil, Slovenia, Sweden and one-off events in markets such as Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Lithuania. It maintains championships across roughly nine weight divisions. Among its long-reigning titleholders is Bahrain-based Super Lightweight Champion Eldar Eldarov, noted for one of the longest active title reigns in the promotion. The current era continues the founding model of country-by-country touring, broad international broadcasting, and an emphasis on promoting homegrown and emerging talent from underserved MMA markets.
