How the data works

Methodology

MMAHIT is an independent MMA & combat-sports resource. Our records cover 382,000+ professional fighters and 1.0M+ recorded fights, spanning the sport from the 1990s to today. This page explains exactly where those numbers come from and how we handle them.

Where the data comes from

Fighter records and bout histories are compiled from publicly available MMA records. For major-promotion fighters (UFC, PFL, ONE, Bellator and other headline rosters) we additionally verify records, weights and photos against official promotion sources before they are surfaced as curated profiles.

When two sources disagree, we favour the event/result record over a fighter's summary page, and we publish only what we can reasonably stand behind rather than guessing at gaps.

What counts toward a record

Only professionalbouts contribute to the win–loss–draw records and to every leaderboard on the site. A “finish” means a win by knockout (KO/TKO) or submission; bouts that reach the judges are counted as decisions. Draws and no-contests are recorded separately and never folded into wins or losses.

How the Facts & leaderboards are built

Every figure on our Facts and Records pages is computed directly over the full fighter database — not a hand-picked subset. Distribution facts (for example, “how do MMA fights end?”) are aggregated across every recorded result and reported as percentages, so they stay accurate even as new fights are added. Career totals such as most wins or most knockouts are read straight from each fighter's verified record columns.

How rankings differ from records

Records are objective counts. Rankings are not. Our divisional and pound-for-pound rankings are maintained editorially by the MMAHIT desk and reflect informed opinion, not an automated formula. Separately, our fan rankings are decided entirely by reader voting. Neither changes a fighter's underlying record.

Photos

Fighter photography is sourced from official promotion media and freely licensed sources (such as Wikimedia) where available. Where we hold no rights-cleared image, a neutral placeholder is shown instead of an unverified photo.

Updates & corrections

Major promotions are reviewed as results come in; the wider historical archive is refreshed on a rolling basis. Combat-sports records inevitably contain historical gaps and the occasional disputed result — if you spot something wrong, tell us and we will check it against the sources.
